Flora and fauna
My plan for the internship was to help around at the sanctuary with anything they needed help with and in my spare time and days off taking photos of all the wildlife that was in the area. Luckily, they needed help with documented all the flora and fauna in the area, so I could spend a lot more time doing my specialty then I hoped I would!
What amazed me is how many different species of plants and animals were around. My big focus was on the more spectacular animals like the bald eagles, humpback whales, sea lions etc. Not necessarily the tiny animals, like bees, slugs and crabs.
Photographing the plants was not even on my personal to-do list at all. I noticed that I had a lot of trouble to focus on photographing the plants and flowers instead of the animals, but after a while I kind of enjoyed doing it. Mostly, because I realized how important the plants and flowers are for animals. The bees and hummingbirds were constantly pollinating and it made the plants much more special in my eyes. Also by learning that bees and hummingbirds can pollinate thousands of flowers each day!
I also can not express my gratitute enough to the sanctuary for making this internship possible! They really made my dream come true! <3
